So you want to learn how to be happy on the job? Join the club. There are plenty of people who'd love to figure
out how to experience happiness at work. Well, one thing is for sure. It is not
going to happen if you just sit back.
You have to take action and there's plenty you can do to turn the tide in your favor.
How to Be Happy at Work
Figuring out how to be happy at work really isn't that hard. As a matter of
fact, you probably can shoot off a list of all the reasons you are not happy.
One thing, I do not want you to automatically think, everything is making you
unhappy. Hopefully, it's not THAT bad. However, if it is, we'll deal with that
in a minute.
Also, if you simply hate that you have to work at all, then I can't help you
there. You're going to have to figure out a way to become rich.
Let's get started, I like to break the workplace into five major categories
as follows: your leadership/boss, the culture, your co-workers, your job
tasks/skill level, and your work life balance. See all of these areas
drastically impact how happy you are when at work.
Think about it.
- Is leadership and the boss competent, caring, knowledgeable, and
supportive? Or are they stupid, incompetent, selfish jerks?
- How about your co-workers? Are they nice, competent, hardworking, team
players committed to the success of your department? Or are they
backstabbing, lazy, whiners, who make your life a living hell?
- Is your work culture (or environment) a great place or is it a
dyfunctional mess?
- How about the work itself? Does it stimulate you? Are you skilled at it?
Do you like it?
- Lastly, how does your working life impact your personal
life? Are you always required to work extra hours or do you have the
flexibility you need that it fits perfectly with your life?
